I hereby give up.

Everyone here has been a tremendous help but I'm sick of the sight of this bloody bike.

Every weekend seems to be getting jam packed with re-doing all the jobs from previous weekend's and not being able to complete anything new.

I can remove my tank in under 2 minutes because I spend my weekends removing and replacing it.

I have no idea how to adjust my throttle cable but if it involves removing the tank, airbox and carbs again then I'm done.

I have insufficient knowledge to proceed. The fuel tap system is the most infuriating system to work on and no parts are available.

I've spent more on postage than parts and my 1000 budget is long gone with no result. I have a bike that won't start unless in prime and revs to buggery.

Did you get all the parts for your needles, you know the spacer you had missing. Did you put them together correctly?
I run my bike on prime all the time, i removed the vacuum junk and i only run one fuel line. i run one line from the reserve outlet on the tank to the tap, the tank other tank outlet is blocked off as is the reserve out on the tap. I have no reserve, i just watch the trip meter and fuel up every time i go out for a trash.
Adjusting the cable is easy, under the throttle is a screw jigger in the cable. Just adjust it so as to have a little bit of free play on the throttle. As for the $1000 budget, well it happens. I have spend 5000 on mine and its still junk.
No matter what i do to it, it's still a GS
It's not how fast your bike is, it's how long you are prepared to hold the throttle on.

I actually used all my suzuki needle stuff last night and built them as per the manual.  I also set up an aux tank so I could adjust the cable and idle with the main tank off.  Things were going well until it stopped and behold, it won't start again. Crank but no fire.  Thought it was flooded so pulled plugs, drained floats and let stuff dry out again.  Refine everything and used same method that worked before but got nothing.

Thanks again for the message.  I needed that!  I'm going hunting for an electrical issue (at first I wondered if the start button was just dirty but in testing last night Im getting mixed results).

Cool, im glad your going to stick with it pal. Check your float heights with the clear tube method. Make sure the carbs are spot on.
As for an electrical fault the best i can  suggest is pull you plugs and groung them on the head. if you have spark it should be ok.

It runs!!!!!! Well charged battery and bypass the damned vacuum line in the fuel tap.

Good work mate, i'm glad you got it going, I was thinking about this bike today.
Be sure to adjust your carb balance with a manometer,you can bulid one for about 10 bucks. And check your inlet manifolds arent leaking air by squirting aerostart around the manifolds with the bike running. If the rev's rise, the manifolds are leaking. Also if the one of the air screws doesnt seem to do much, that is a sight the manifolds are leaking too.

Hold thy horses all... Put tank back on and suddenly......bike won't start.

Lots of fuel.
Good fat spark both sides....hmmmm what's different.
Well, before it was running beautifully with the airbox removed...Now I can't vouch for the condition of the filter.  When I started out I said that it "looked" clean and so I followed some advice and washed it in clean petrol and let it dry... but now Im going out to lift the tank up and pull out the filter...any bets?

Have ordered some pod type filters as the airbox is its own pain in the arse to get on and off (I am getting used to it).

I say always start with a fresh filter when you get a used bike.

intake manifolds in good condition?

Ok so it runs with the remote tank, does it run with the real fuel tank?
Get rid of that vacuum shaZam!. Just cut the hose about 2 inch's long and block it with a bolt, and clamp it. Ive gotten rid of the gs tap all together now and ordered an 8mm inline one from a cafe racer shop in melbourne. I was still getting starvation at high revs. I was looking at the tap and how the fuel runs through it ( i dismantled it) and i swear the fuel gets dizzy going through that piece of crap. My set up atm is a hose direct from the reserve outlet of the tank straight to the carbs. When im not riding i just clamp the hose with a G clamp.LOL No more starvation.

Ok. It's solved..... Took of tank AGAIN hooked up my Coke bottle and coat hanger tank. Removed air filter but left on box. Filled tank and fired first push.

Whilst running I dropped in the air filter. Bike bogged down immediately but seemed to just about keep running.

Took it out and engine came back to life.

Tried it with real tank and tap on prime no air filter. Ran first push.

Lifted back of tank and dropped in filter bogged down again.

Turned tap onto "run" and it kept running!!!!!!

Conclusion new air filter and for the sake of $20 don't try and wash a paper filter.

I've used an old lawnmower air filter for the valve cover breather. Bit of duct tape around the hose to make a nice snug fit. Job done.
