Bike gradually stalling out and trouble starting when warm.

Hey, new rider here looking for a fix.

On a ride earlier today my bike started acting weird. The throttle became sporadically unresponsive, as in it became choppy like it kept engaging and disengaging. I then couldn't keep the revs up and eventually the bike stalled. This was at highway speeds.

Once I came to a stop I couldn't start the bike without giving it choke, despite having ridden for over half an hour. When I did get it started, it idled pretty high, higher than it usually does with full choke, from the usual 3k to 4k. Then it kinda fizzled out, the revs slowly fell until it stalled again. I got on it twice once it had cooled and it rode normally for about a minute, then the same thing happenened again. It also backfired once when I tried starting it.

I'm somewhat mechanically inclined and would certainly prefer to fix it myself, but I have next to no experience. I would guess it's something with the fueling, but I'd like your input before I start wrenching.

It's an '08 and has only done 15.400 km. I don't have much service history on it, but it passed inspection earlier this year.

Sounds silly, but switch to pri for a minute or two, to make sure carbs have fuel in, see if it will get started, then switch to reserve and see if it's running ok, if yes then go fill up! Bike has a 5litre reserve so when it 'looks like plenty of fuel... it isn't... just to reserve level...

There can be many things carb/fuel related that it could be.. .  But your description sounds very familiar to when I recently drained old fuel out of tank and then ran bike till carbs were empty...  main thing similar is carbs are empty! Don't fret if this is it, happened to plenty of us! ;)

If its not it... then there's things to check with carb boots etc that others here are more savvy on! :thumb:

It definitely has plenty of gas, I'm gonna try some suggestions I got today on Reddit, sounds like they think I might have to fiddle with the carbs.

Ok cool :thumb: ... it can be deceptive for some, sounds like you got it covered though :)
