Idea: Add external springs to front suspension

Hello,
So im thinking, the well known issue with the soft front suspension might be fixed with pair of soft external springs around the tubes. This would provide non invasive and easily CONVERTIBLE solution.

Has anyone done that. Or thought about it. Share your thoughts.

Im playing with idea of modifying my GS to a trail scrambler and i am focused on low budget solutions. In fact if my budget was OK i wouldnt even bother and would consider buying more suitable bike for the task. But my old 1994 GS500E is already beaten up to a point that i dont believe i can sell it well enough. I wasnt treating her well. So i thought, lets finish it with style.

That is a bit too $$$ and fugly, not to mention it can damage the chrome on the already crappy fork tubes.

Put a thick fork brace on and put one of those Harley style fluid reservoir between the steering stem and that fork brace. That's how BMW R bikes have been for years. You could then just use stiffer springs in the legs. Or put in a bigger - even bigger - like original is 12" so longer than that spacer.
