Possible to re-use that rubber piece on the case for the stator wires?

Hi,

I found some time today to finally replace my stator. I had bought one off ebay and the replacement was going good (except for of course, all three screws holding the stator wires being stuck, so I had to wire it through).

Well, I found an odd bottleneck. You see, the area where the stator wires runs out of the case is plugged up with this rubber piece, which the three wires go through.

See: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Electrosport-Stator-for-Suzuki-GS500F-2001-2009-/331755903468?fits=Model%3AGS500F&hash=item4d3e3159ec:g:Md4AAOSwa-dWmppB&vxp=mtr

Well, I realized I needed it, so I tried to remove the old wires from this rubber piece with some pliers. Does not work. I'm not sure if it's even meant to be removable, since the alignments of the holes on the exit entrance are different, meaning it's not going straight through.

Anyway, I am thinking about posting negative feedback for the seller who sold it (because it's not actually complete without the rubber piece) and just buying a used case + stator off ebay. I just find it odd a seller might sell me a part w/o it being fully fit for replacement.

What do you all think? I'm not sure there is another way at this point.

You didn't buy the genuine Suzuki part did you. To save money? How much cheaper was the aftermarket part? Can you imagine the number of different rubber grommets the aftermarket supplier would have to have moulded to cover all the models they need to? (hundreds? thousands?).
IMHO I'd hold off on the negative feedback. With a sharp scalpel and some superglue you should be able to adapt the old grommet to fit.
If not post a pic to show us why not.

Thank you for the advice.

No, it's not OEM. My local Suzuki dealer does not carry it. It's just off ebay by a company named Caltric. And I guess you're right -- from a manufacturing standpoint, it's inefficient to be making those rubber grommets. I had not thought at all about that process. Though I'm not sure how they could expect to sell so many parts if they weren't exact fits.

Anyway, I'm glad to have posted here first. You are right --  I could cut it open and glue it back together and have my bike running by tomorrow. Thanks Jool.

Update: I cut up the rubber piece using a box cutter. The rubber is an essential part of the stator install, so I don't recommend buying one online without it. Glued it back together with superglue.

Also, I would recommend caution when buying parts from Caltric. Their parts do fit the gs500 for a good price, but some things are always just not 100% perfect. For this stator, it's that the connectors are not pre-crimped and no rubber piece. For their regulator, it's fatter than stock so the bolts won't fit and the connector that comes with it doesn't match up so I had to reuse my old one.
