Two questions, 1. are the brake lines the same for a 2010 Naked and an F model, if I order one as listed for a 2003-2008 GS500F will it fit my 2010 GS500? 2. I'm getting a pair of HEL made and I was wondering about the grommets that are on the front of the OEM brake line do they need to be added to the HEL line?

I also need to confirm the pitch on the banjo bolts for an 2010GS 500 HEL's spec says 3 are M10 x 1.00 and 1 M10 x 1.25 would that be correct? or would they all be 1.25?

thanks

Well, you said 2 questions...but you actually asked 3!

Question #1...I dunno...different handlebars, different length brake line?  I bet there is little to no difference and it certainly won't matter, as you need to have some bow or slack in the line anyway. Why not measure the length of your existing line and order the same length?

Question #2...you order the grommets when you order the brake line...gs500 (front)needs 2 grommets...You can't put them on once the line is made..they don't fit over the end fittings...In a pinch you can slit the grommet to slip over the brake line...but this is crappy workmanship.

Question #3...The GS500 uses the FINE threads (1.00)(on the front brake line, both for the res, and for the caliper...most bikes use the coarse thread (1.25), but some like the GS use the fine....Don't know about the rear brake....If one is course thread (1.25)...simply order one extra bolt when you order the lines...so you only pay one shipping and you get what you need at once...

I had an extra SS braided line from another project...turned out it was a good length for my GS...with clubman (lower) bars...Had to order the fine thread bolts however...

These were custom made by Core Moto...

I love it...brake lever is really rock hard now...noticable difference...

I can confirm front banjo on a 2013 E model(reservoir end) is M10 x 1.25 pitch,and caliper banjo is M10 x 1.00 pitch.I found it much easier to bleed/charge the line having a banjo/bleeder nipple at the same point.
It's also easier to use a syringe to inject the brake fluid from the bleeder upwards to the reservoir.

PS...i would upload pics but this lack of functionality website prevents this......it needs to be FIXED.  >:(

Big Rich

User, most decent online part diagrams list the bolt threads and pitch (it is sometimes in the actual part # though).

It's opener there in the wide open air...

Interesting!   My bike is a 2009 F model....both front banjo bolts are 1.00 pitch.

They still made GS 500 in 2013?  and E model?

A quick look at the micro fische...shows the same part # for three of the banjo bolts...and a different part number for the front res.  I figured maybe it was a different length ?...but could be a different pitch ?...fische does not specify the bolt size..

I did just recently change my front brake line...I had 1.25 pitch bolts "in stock" and they did not fit either the res or the caliper...I ordered 1.00 pitch bolts form Core Moto and they fit just right.

Solution...take out your bolts and see what you got!  Order that....

Another solution...order 4x 1.00...and order 4x 1.25....they gotta fit one way or another..save on shipping, and have parts in stock for the next project...

Do different years, or bikes form different countries use different brake parts?  When the parts run out on a production line do they substitute something else?  I've seen this in car parts.

twocool:
"They still made GS 500 in 2013?  and E model?".....They were still assembled in Spain(no fork logo though) for the E and probably the F models.
All parts that i'v ever seen on my bike are Made In Japan....Oz Compliance Plate date Jan/2013

"Do different years, or bikes from different countries use different brake parts?".....Don't know for sure but it wouldn't surprise me if they did.Not worth taking the risk cos various other parts differ from country to country.
Better to measure your own and get it right, especially if your going to purchase a decent quality combined banjo/bleeder.

Interesting...

Re the banjo bolts...there are definitely two part numbers.  I've found examples on the Internet which show one of the part numbers in both 1.00 and 1.25...also in different lengths!

But the 1.25 one shows up for the front caliper, not the res.

Also some say "not for the USA market"....

Sooooo...It is, what it is....

OK I'm in Australia so a 2010 will surely be the same. I'll go for the 3x 1.00 and 1x 1.25 I won't be putting the rear one on right away anyway, so even if both fronts are 1.00 I'll be right.

Thanks everyone else for the grommet info, will measure and get them attached at the correct spot.

Cool....

I think you'll find that on the "custom" lines, that the grommets will "slide" to where you need them...just specify how many you need....at least the Core Moto lines work this way...
