Hi everyone,
I'm going through the process of doing a custom respray on my 2006 GS500F and I did the fairings last summer and am now moving on to the tank.
But, at the same time as spraying the tank I would like to get the swing arm blasted to remove the usual rust and freshen it up.
So, how easy is it to remove the swing arm?

Pretty easy to get the swing arm off, there's a pivot bolt that attaches the swing arm to the frame and another that attaches to the shock linkage from memory. If you have the swing arm blasted be prepared you may need new bearings, even with masking, stuff is bound to get into the bearings and they won't last long with sand/other media in them.

For an 06 F model you'll need 4 bearings in total, 22x29x30 (x2) for the pivot and 17x24x25 (x2) for where it attaches to the linkage. These are standard size bearings so buy aftermarket, you'll save a fortune. Don't know where you're based, but it's about £18/$26 for all the bearings in the UK.

Welcome to the forum, there are some really knowledgeable and helpful people knocking about here, I wouldn't have been able to do anything to my bike without this place! Make sure you upload some pics of your custom paint!

Thank you so much! So helpful! And yes, I am in the UK :)

I will definitely put up pictures when the tank is done and the respray is completed :D
