E sidestand longer than F?

I have a Kat shock and have dropped the forks as much as possible on my '06 F, so my bike leans over too much with the stock kickstand. It is unstable.

I saw an old post that suggested the older kickstands are an inch longer than the new style. If that is the case, I think it would solve my bike lean problem. Does anyone have both and can confirm before I spend money on an eBay sidestand from an E model?

Hiya Bluesmudge,

I don't have both... but I ran outside and measured the stand on my '98 E... from the ground up to the top of the stand, it measures 9.5"

I also measured from the end/tip of the stand's base, up the curve and to the top (where it attaches to the frame) and that was 11.5"

Maybe you could use those measurements and compare to the one on your bike? Hope that helps !! If it doesn't, I hope someone else can confirm for ya

Thanks! That's some good thinking. I'll measure mine after work tonight.

No problem!!!

Boy that would be awesome if the E one would work for you. Betcha you could find one from one of the parts bikes in the FS section... sand, prime, paint, clear and just like new  :D

They changed something  (at least outside the US):

But I think it was a discussion with myself, Fetor, and somebody else that the differences between models came up. The thread was about GS's in Australia being different than kther markets, and Fetor said the kickstand was different.

I just measured my side stand and I came up with 9.5 measuring from the ground, along the side stand to the middle of the bolt and a little over 10.5 inches measuring along the flat bit and up the side stand to the middle of the bolt.  Did I measure mine that same way as you?

Cause if so, this is intriguing.

My bike is a '92 and is the naked version.  I think that is the E version, right?

Maybe it is just the newer E versions like Showbiz' '98 ??

ShowBizWolf

I measured like you did both times (sounds like) except I went to the very top/tip of the stand itself, not to the center of the bolt.

E = nakedz yes  :D

Ok, I measured the stand on my F. I'll post a photo later to make sure I am measuring the same as you.

I got 8.5" to bolt center and 9" to the top of the stand. So its possible the F stand is 1/2" shorter than the E stand.

So I didn't comprehend when you said "to the top (where it attaches to the frame)".  That's probably where I went wrong.  :technical:  :technical:  :technical:

Alright well I bought an '98 E sidestand and I can confirm it is slightly longer, about half an inch.  I fitted it to my bike (Kat rear shock) and it helped a little.  I still want it to stand up a bit more so I might affix some kind of pad to the underside of the sidestand - I think I want it to be another half inch longer.
