Odometer messed up but speedometer fine

Hey, I have a 2005 GS500 that's relatively new to me. After an incident involving gravel, the speedo cable was detached from the cluster end and when I put the cable back in I used electrical tape to secure it since I couldn't find any screw-on piece for it.

That got the speedometer working and accurate, but now the odometer logs about 10 times as many miles as I actually travel. It hasn't been that long, so I'm not concerned about the current mileage reading, but I'd like to fix it as soon as possible.

I've read every relevant thread I could find, but none seem to have the same problem. The approaches I've considered are getting a new cable attachment cap, getting a new cable, or replacing the gauge itself, unless there are any other alternatives.

Any input or suggestions would be very appreciated.

Errrm. .if the Speedo is reasonably accurate and the odo is off kilter.. that might be an internal gear/cog thingy issue?! ...

you not just looking at the 'tenth of mile' position are you ?
