So I am a newer rider. My first bike and now project bike is a 1995 GS500E, love this machine. I have done some amazing trips with this bike. Early in the fall, I picked up another bike for my day to day drive to work (Kawasaki ER6N). The GS has not been used all through the remainder of the fall, winter, and early spring. Last week I changes the oil, put the battery on the tender, checked the tires and chain, and got the bike ready for a long over due ride. The bike started up fine and when I went to take it out I noticed a problem. >:( >:( >:(

The bike shifted down into first but would not shift up into second, even worse is I could not get the bike to shift back into neutral.

I rolled the bike back into the garage and decided to take another look at it the following day. The next morning to my surprise there was oil all over the garage floor. Taking a closer look the oil appears to be coming out of the bottom of the crank case from no particular area...

THE QUESTION:

1) I am assuming the seal might have dried up over the winter, but does anyone have any suggestions as to what might be causing the leak? and solution for the fix?

2) What could cause the motorcycle to get stuck in first gear? Why? and what is the best option to investigate further?

Thank you any and all for any support or advice you can offer.
