Well, semi new to me bike was in for service, 04 gs500  35k miles.

previous owner I guess never had valves check while they owned it.   looks like one is just on the verge of tolerance in spec with the smallest shim possible. (not sure which one it is yet, intake or exhaust, haven't picked up the bike yet)

so, looks like either a head repair on swap is going to be on order sooner than later.

I know you can't buy them new, so, searching for used ones.

anyone have any suggestions of good parts shops in the US?

thanks

If you have some motorcycle repair shops in your area you can call around and see if any of them have a head in good condition.  I did that and got lucky, I got a head with only a couple thousand miles on it and in great shape.  Paid $200 for the whole assembly and very satisfied with the way that worked out.

If you bought and installed new valves would that bring your clearances into a useable range?

Used heads show up on eBay and here on GStwins fairly often. Usually under $200. Shipping can be expensive. I think I paid $40 to ship a GS head. Maybe a little less.
