Looking for the K&N pods. Many people have said you can get them from Kart suplliers for under $40 and pair. Can someone give my a few sites where I can buy them for under $40 a pair.

Also what do you do with the breather hose from the engine after you install the pods?

Adam R

Breather hose you can put an individual breather filter on it, or you make one out of a fuel filter.

As for those pods,  I think that they're the same one's that I'm running.  Do a google search for RU-0800 and something might turn up.

OK the individual pods (actually its 1 pod that covers both carbs) that replaces the airbox was available at usdieselparts.com. It was 29.99 with free shipping. The Pod that goes in the airbox is different, I doint know where that is available.
Cool.

I'm actually looking for the two individual pods,K&N product # RU-0800 that covers each carb. I can't seem to find a pair for under $40. They are individually $30. So was just wondering you you guys bought them from?

The Buddha

http://www.usdieselparts.com/knfilters/specs/dualflangeoval.cfm the RU 2970 will be the one for the GS. Gino had it and I thought it was great.
The individual pods actually are not as good as these. I always am afraid they will fly off and on my eli 1000 they have.
Cool.

Why would the single-double pod be better than the two individual pods?  As far as I can tell, the two pods allow more air into the carbs than the the double filter assembly. Also, I've heard that the single-double assymbly is hard to install and remove.  The individual ones are real easy to take off and on.

Also, I've ridden on the track with my RU-0800s at 9-11K rpms and never had a problem with my filters.  I did blow open a valve cover screw while chasing an instructor on his R6, but that's another issue

I think I ended up paying $40 for mine through Parts411.  So perhaps for the $10 you're better off with the single-double.

The single pod with 2 openings - aka dual costs 32.50, the 1 pod aka single costs 28 and you need 2. Apart from that the dual has that mondo surface area, and since only 1 carb sucks in at any time the effective area is 2-3 times that of the singles. On the GS the dual sits in well between the frame rails and occupies a good portion of the empty space vacated by the air box and there is no chance it will fly off even in theory. The singles in theory can fly off. I have singles from S&B filters which IMHO are better than K&N's (had those on the 90 I sold) and have them wired to the frame with a cable sorta thing. So its slightly better on flying off, much better on flow area, and cheaper. Ergo I like it.

i don't know the part # of my pod but i got it off usdieselparts.com for 30 bucks and free shipping....couldn't be more happy with the product and price

i'm torn between the single big pod and the individual pods.

IF i mount the pod and then put the carbs in is it really much easier?  I have the carbs out for rejetting anyways.

I saw in another post that some people had a helluva time getting the big single pod to go on, but i"m assuming that was with the carbs in the bike.

Also, can i just go to advance auto and and get a filter that will fit my crankcase breather hose?

I have the single pod. I have a very hard time getting the pod on. With the carbs uninstalled it is hard to get it on. With the carbs installed it is damn near impossible.

Somehting is wrong then... You either have the wrong clamps or the wrong filter or some like that... cos on Gino's bike we got it off and on a 100 times while trying to get it to fire up...
Cool.

Srinath,

I thought I remembered you saying in another post that it was hard as hell to get on his bike at first?

it IS hard to get the singe pod on the GS carbs...
you got to squeeze the pod where the clamps go so at the end you make it look more like a egg, not a circle because the carburator inlets arn't perfectly round...

after shaping the rubber it's a lot easyer to get the pod on the carburator's

BadBatzMaru

no way. mine was super easy to get on (with the carbs out).... just popped right on and no need to squeeze or force... then just screwed clamps down.... it is tricky to deal with when the carbs are in the bike though... i wonder why some people seem to have a tougher time than others...?

BadBatzMaru

should clarify. i have RU-2970 single pod with two ports....

jake42

was it easy to get the whole assembly back into the bike?  What did you do for the breather hose from the crankcase?

thanks

OK more getitng caught lying for me... damn. Anyway Gino fit them on first time... and you may very well be right. That egg shaped mouth needs to get the rubber to flex and may be hard the first time. But on the day I am talking about we fit it and off 10 times. It was nothing.
Cool.
