fairing compatibility

I have a 92 gs500e and while looking at replacement fairings online I saw some one piece units, one said it was from a 01 and other said from 04, would one piece fairings mount stock on other years? I started thinking (never good) are the gs500f body parts compatible? While shaking off the 12year rust I graduated from parking lots to back causing havoc on the streets and looking to clean up the bike a little. When I got it had a few scratches on stator cover, clutch cover and fairings were a scuffed up, center was missing. It ended up being a kind of fun bike and really cheap to insure so I'll probably end up keeping it. If anybody has suggestions and where to buy body parts online would be much greatful.

2001+ have a different tank, seat, rear plastics, and mounts for said rear plastics.
Front fairing I'm not sure, as far as I know pre 2001 didn't have a factory faired version, just the naked version.

Ebay, craigslist and this site are the best places to find gently used GS parts.

Are you asking about a front fairing or just the rear plastics?

'89 - '00 tail plastics are interchangeable. Any belly pans and bikini fairings for these years should all fit as well. There were a few european manufacturers of E model fairings but they are expensive and rare. Airtech made another fairing designed for track bikes that could be adapted for street use.
'01 - '09 all have the updated tail plastics
'04+ F models have the front fairing. No other yeras have the brackets to install these front fairings.

while indeed the rear plastics tabs are a bit different on 01+ its not hard to make metal tabs for you to mount the newer stuff, weld, bolt, or rivet. the plastic bits aren't really structural.

just rear plastics, I think the front fairings look silly.
