Bent valves?

So I tried to start my engine w/manual (aftermarket) cam tensioner loose. Engine didn't start, and a lot unnatural noise from valve area. I only cranked the engine for about 20-30 seconds. The exhaust cam jumped 2 teeth, intake was ok. Reset everything and tried again, but engine wouldn't start. I pulled valve cover off and in re-checking notice right-side exhaust and left side intake valves were off.
Before I order shims does it sound like the valves are bent? Would bent valves cause valve-adjustment to change? I really don't want to pull the head off but I can't figure out why the valve clearances would be off.

A big increase in valve clearance = bent valves.
But your description needs punctuation, I cant exactly understand. Like the words are all there but no idea where one ends and the next one begins.
Cool.

That's what I thought. I took 235's shims out and 270's wouldn't bridge the gap.
Is replacing a valve something a diy'er can do or machine shop?

I did something silly and bent my valves. I decided to just buy a used head and swap the whole thing rather than learning how to replace and seat new valves. Plus I bought a head with less miles than the rest of the engine so that seemed like a good thing. It's been running for 20,000 miles since then.

If you wait long enough you can get a used head in good shape for under $200 shipped. Then buy the Hanes manual it goes over everything step by step. I managed to figure it out and I had never been inside an engine before.

$200 would be great! Had the head off a few times, so I'm not worried about the tear down. Just hate missing out on all this warm weather (nj)
My shop charges a fortune for head work, but I guess I have no choice.
