Hi all this is my first post and my first GS.
I bought a 93 gs with a cracked crank case (Front upper Mount)
found a lovely new case and swapped all components.
On inspection i saw that i had been sold a lemon. The Big End shell bearings were scattered all aver the engine,
The conrod bolts were in the sump and conrod bolts bent.
Catastrophic i thought, but the camshaft had minor burns that was all so i replaced both conrods and bearings.
I locked the gears in neutral, and set the folks and rebuilt the engine.
this is the funny not funny bit.
i didn't check that the gears worked before reinstalling the engine.
I got the engine started in the bike, all good there but found an oil leak from the drive shaft.
I missed some thing. one of the c-rings is sticking up at the bottom of the drive shaft, behind the drive shaft oil seal.
I cant remember if there was two c-rings surrounding the drive shaft output or just the one on the top as in the manual.

.10 and .31 it just shows the c-rings at the top. i may have put one in the oil channel along the bottom stopping the oil seal from seating correctly.

I cant find any info to say there are to of these rings around the drive seal.
thanks for any help i have a problem with the gears stuck also but will save that for another post

As a disclaimer, I have not personally split the GS500 case yet.

The service manual shows only the upper C-ring and, when reading the section on engine reassembly, it only mentions installing the C-ring in the upper case. Perhaps someone can give you something more definitive. Also, if you don't already own a service manual, there is a link in the top right of this page to pick one up. Good luck!

Thanks for the response  Sq,
I have a maintenance manual and there is no mention of a lower ring.

I took the engine out again, ad re-split the case. bought new oil seals removed the lower c-ring.
took a couple of days in between other jobs.
bike started again no oil leak.
tested all the gears, then reassembled.
The issue now is she sounds like she goes into gear but i have no movement on the drive shaft sprocket.
it also stalls. ive checked the stand and adjusted the clutch tight.
Could this be a clutch plate problem?
