Thanks for the info mr72 - I was tempted by the more cut down end can (300 rather than 400), I think I'll see what's on offer when they are back in stock. I think all those BW ones come with a dB killer thing that can be removed without much hassle in-situ (allegedly!) so I can see how it goes. Any idea what they mean by a 'stubby'? I can only assume its the size of very end pipe?

Jardine one looks about like what I'm after too, might have to see if they are available over here...doesn't look good. Links through to various places end up at a V&H which another post on here says is mild steel?

Lawnmowers! I once mis-replaced the governor on an old briggs lawn-mower, they sound fantastic at about 5000rpm. probably didn't do it any good starting like that from cold mind...

By "stubby" they usually just mean a short(er) can. An ordinary muffler may be 17-18" long, "stubby" may be 11-12" ... ??

Bluesmudge

Vance and Hines is a nice exhaust but it is painted steel so it needs similar upkeep as the stock can. Rusty after 4 years or so and then needs paint or stove polish every year or two after that.
