Had the weirdest thing happened today on my 2007 GS 500 f with 4K miles I was riding and noticed my speedometer wasn't working I looked down and I could see the end of the cable detached from speedometer. I drove about a mile to my daughter's house got off and checked it out notice that the spedometer had threads on the back of it for the cable screws on I figured the nut had come loose and slid down the cable guess what there was no nut at all How could a metal nut just disappear it couldn't have fell off the bottom because the cable is attached to the front wheel and at the top of the cable there's a metal sleeve with a flare on it and the nut couldn't have come off that way go figure anybody ever had this problem now I have to go buy a whole new cable just because of a stupid nut

In theory yeah........it should stay on the cable  :dunno_black:

Was it definitely there to start with?

It's not uncommon for the collars to back off with all the vibes they see but  people make the mistake of overtightening the collar and in doing so strip the threads or even brake the threaded section clean off  the back of the speedo. Then they get kludged by whatever weird and wacky way the owner can come up with.! The answer is a few turns of PTFE tape on the threads.

Tape, or loctite GREEN.

Mine comes loose all the time, then I threw some green on there [its the least strongest form of loctite.]
