Removing rear Stone Shield or mud flap or whatever it's called on 2007 GS500F

I just removed the Hideous mud flap or stonegard I don't know which one it is from the back of my 2007 GS500 f it truly is the most ugliest thing on the bike has anybody else this ? it makes the bike looks so much better from the back what I did was remove the license plate and take a piece of masking tape and mask a half inch above where the plate hangs down my bike was sitting in the sun for about 2 hours so the plastic was real pliable I just used the pair of straight tin snips and cut along the top line of the tape I'll post the pic if I can what is the purpose of that piece hanging down so low it looks like s#*@

Also can anybody recommend a good set of LED turn signals for the front and back flush mount that would cover the holes from the old turn signals and would look decent like possibly they were made for the bike thanks

In most places, a vehicle is required by law to have mud flaps behind the driving wheels of the vehicle. Likely because these wheels cause more spray (liquid or debris) than the other wheels, and it's for the safety of other people around/vehicles on the road. Thats why you see mud flaps only on the front wheels of FWD cars, and only on the rear of RWD cars. On all wheels on AWD cars. Or, of course, on all wheels if the owner has chosen to add them out of aesthetics or practical reasons depending on the terrain they typically drive in.

So that would explain the mud flap on a motorcycle's rear wheel. You'll likely see some kind of mud flap type thing on all bikes, unless they've been customized.

That being said, a cop can technically pull someone over for not having mud flaps on the driving wheels. The odds of this happening are low, cuz cops don't really care about that too much. Unless you're being a nuisance and they're trying to write you up for whatever they can.

Source: My cousin is a cop. He also removed the mud flaps off his truck because he didn't like how they looked lol.

Gcook57 what you did is very commonly called a "fenderectomy" and many people do it because they agree with you about how a bike looks better without them. Check out the wiki for more info!

I did it to my GS shortly after I got it as well... but I removed as much as I could, including where the stock signals were. I found some signals I liked (OEM '01 GSXR) and mounted them to the tail plastics instead.

There are many possibilities! You should share a picture when you've found signals you like and get 'em mounted up

I have a fenderectomy as well, but mine stops just below where the stock signals are. I don't have the stock signals, but the signals I have are mounted in the same spot. My buddy that also has a GS left his stock. Personally, I think the fenderectomy makes mine look much better than his lol. But, I had no idea it might be illegal... With all the tail tidy and/or integrated light kits out there for sportbikes, I just figured it wasn't an issue.

Count me as one of the few who wish the previous owner had not chopped my rear mud guard. I am not a fan of the no-rear-fender look. Looks like the bike didn't get finished being assembled.

Thanks for the pics Showbiz wolf I can't believe how much of a difference in a anesthetic point of view I really think your chances of getting pulled over because of that are probably 1 in  10,000 cops aren't experts in every kind of bike made plus I live in Detroit where that would be the lowest priority on their agenda for Christ sakes it takes him a half hour to respond to a shooting not a good place to move to now but I still love it I've grown up here for 60 plus years

As far as I can tell for PA, "The wheels of a motorcycle shall be equipped with fenders of a type used as original equipment." A fenderectomy is still leaving the OEM fender "equipped", its just shortening the length that it extends over the rear wheel. I would think of it as being akin to removing mud flaps. And in PA, apparently only "medium to heavy duty trucks" and commercial vehicles are required to have mud flaps. All vehicles must have "fenders" though. Even if that could be interpreted as fenderectomy=illegal, I can't imagine that you'd ever in a million years get pulled over for it or ticketed for it unless you were being a d*ck to the cop and he wanted to get you for anything he could.
