Survey of all you GS500 owners , which aftermarket exhaust sounds the best

I would like to see a few responses on this question and the reason why, horsepower gain, sound just want to get everybody's opinion and sort it out thanks everybody for all the help you've given me how much horsepower could I expect to gain with some aftermarket I really hate the sound of the stock exhaust it sounds really wimpy that's what I want to beef up a lot but if there's one that does both that would be cool

+ headers? X pipe, or duel pipes, headers. the slip on-s don't really matter. but the GS sounds best X piped, or duel piped.

I don't have any input when it comes to horsepower gain... but the reason I ditched my stock exhaust when I bought my GS because it was rusty and faded... and the muffler was very rashed.

Didn't know much at the time about where to get parts online or anything so I just went to eBay and searched for a "full stainless system for GS500" or something like that. Bought one that said "no rejetting necessary" because, again, I was new to bikes and just wanted a replacement that would hold up and look nice.

I removed the baffle and I'm happy with the sound. Dunno if anyone would call it "beefy" or anything lol but I like it... and with my last year's discovery of Yoshimura Stain-Magic polish, it shines up like new even though it's over 5 years old

My exhaust system is far from standard, but I love the sound of it.
Basically stock headers, straight into an eBay MotoGP copy. 
It's got an awesome low growl, hearty but not to the point of being obnoxious.

That exhaust paired with the old fashioned chug of a carb'd engine always brings a smile to my face.
Dare I say, it's probably even better than the jet engine whine of my other bike, a Triumph Daytona 675.

try the H piped stock headers, but instead of the Y pipe into one pipe, keep them separate and stack those GP mufflers on top.. you will thank me later because the sound is amazing. why suzuki didn't do this, is beyond me.. not like the GS500 has a catalytic converter.


for anyone who's wondering. X pipe offers a better sound, and more top end HP [we're talking like 0.1 HP here.] and a H pipe system offers more low end torque [again talking like 0.1 FT.LBs of torque] But both trade one for the other.. you either gain your .1 HP, and lose your .1 FT.LB, or vise versa.

I've got the stock H pipe headers separated with two yoshi cans out the back. I've never heard another GS even sound close to mine. Really throaty sound, way louder than stock, but nothing mind blowing - it's still 487cc carbureted twin, no exhaust will change that

I originally rejetted with the stock exhaust because the GS is lean from the factory - had to rejet again with the duals. I noticed a much bigger difference with the first rejet, even though the second rejet included my fancy duals.

Advice I'd offer is just get one you like the looks of and can stand the price - any aftermarket will likely sound better to you than stock.  I don't know of any exhaust that will really add HPs, other than "seat feel"

Rejet while you're at it if you haven't already. You'll love the difference, even if it just shaves off some warmup time. I dunno if forum member Buddha is still in the jet business, but he had super deals on rejet kits and has it down to a science. He helped me with the rejet for my duals.

P.S. everyone knows the only thing that adds HPs to the GS is stickers. 😂

or if you decide to not go this route, you could play with the gearing . -1 more torque off line but +500 revs at top speed. Thesound work on the sound aspect of the beloved gas.
