I've been looking around, and the racks I've found are for 2001-2004 models.  Does anyone have any recommendations for a rack to hold a Givi, or another top case to hold a helmet and jacket?

I built one.

anyway, '01-04 are likely the same or at least adaptable to a '09.

Racks designed to fit 01-04 will fit all later models as well- the rear/tail is all the same 01+.

I have a Shad SH46 which fits two full face helmets with ease. I used an SW Motech Alurack to mount it. Slight modification was required for that particular rack, though it was very easy. I can't say I would recommend the rack for any larger of a case.

Shad cases are excellent quality and are less costly than a similar size/feature Givi. Worth a look for sure!

I have  Shad  side case luggage rack  &  shad  top mount  on  2007  GS500F  ,   Hepco  &  Becker  side case & top mount  will  work on 2007 GS500F . :thumb:
Some people   say  Disneyland  is the happiest place on earth ,  I say  Playboy  Mansion ..............

I have the hepco & becker racks and cases. Expensive but very nice and very durable.

Any GS500 after 2001 will  have the same rear plastics and mounting points.

I don't think you can go past the GIVI E460

Then you can add a rack on top and also a backrest.

I made a rack bolted to the passenger grab handle to carry soft luggage which could be removed by unbolting the grab handle for my 97 GS.

For my 02 GS I found a Suzuki accessory rack that bolted on in place of the grab handle and mounted a 33 liter Givi case on it and the case started to bounce after a while so I added a couple bracing struts to it and it went the rest of the 02's 100k miles.

407,400 miles in 30 years for 13,580 miles/year average.  Started riding 7/21/84 and hung up helmet 8/31/14.
