Is this a vacuum problem or something else?

Hello guys,

Hoping one of you experienced wizards here will be able to help me here! I think it's a potential vacuum issue but here's a bit of backstory.
I hadn't ridden the bike in a while due to losing a job and weather being rough etc etc.
When I did ride it last it cut out on me a couple times. I put it down to carbs being funky so set to work cleaning the jets. Not much in the bowls but put the bike back together and it worked.
I've moved now for a new job and it's much easier for me to take the bike than a car so i brought it back with me. I've noticed now that it seems almost... louder? I'll try upload a video but my first thought was that its my re-assembly. The bike runs and everything seems fine but the sound definitely wasn't there before.
Anyone got any pointers? I thought maybe I haven't seated the carbs back quite right and there's an air leak somewhere but haven't had enough light/time to take it apart and have a look.

Video almost sounds worse than it is  :icon_eek: https://vimeo.com/259046137

sorry also for the essay, any advice welcome

Thanks in advance!

Im certainly not a wizard, but I'll give you my two cents anyway: It doesn't sound healthy and the video show that you have quite a bit of corrosion/rust. The hose shown here also looks quite old too. Have you been maintaining the hoses, carbs, and valve shims? If not, it's probably time to do all of that. Now, someone else may come along and tell you the one thing that is causing this sound, but I'd argue that if you fix that and the rest of these things I mentioned haven't been done, you will need to do them soon anyway.

Hi darkstar, you're not wrong with your comments! The bike wasn't in such a good way when I bought it and I haven't done my fair share of maintenance. At the moment I'm looking for a new place to live with my top priority being having somewhere to work on my bike.
I've kept on top of cleaning and inspecting the carbs, the hoses could do with replacing but I'm just waiting for space and I think I've done less than 1000 miles since the last valve clearance but I think I'm going to do it again soon for peace of mind.

I took the bike apart today, not sure entirely what caused the noise but I re did the routing of hoses and inspected a few. Noise gone now but imagine I'll be replacing all hoses soon and maybe a couple boots.

Appreciate the two cents though thank you!
