I got this 92 gs500 for free non running,
Fuel tank was full of rust.

It was purple completely stock and pretty lame looking,
But I looked at it for a little while and thought, well I guess I'll go get an angle grinder and some paint.
And of course I got carried away and now it looks like this.

I got the rust out of the tank with diesel and BBs.
Painted the tank with black plasti dip.
Removed all the fairings and factory blinkers, brake light, plasticy ugliness.
Angle grinded some of the rear frame off, bent some sheet metal and bolted it on back and drilled some holes for the new light set up.
Also cut the stock seat and folded the leather under and re stapled it.
Had to wire in a modern blinker relay for the low amp drawing blinkers I got off Amazon.
Got a full Vance and Hines exhaust off eBay for 40 bucks.
A pair of jetted carbs for 25 bucks from the same guy.
New tires, went with 140 in the back.
Side of tire licesne plate mount.
Katana 750 rear shock.
Black exhaust wrap for the headers.
I mounted a Guest battery charger to the side of the bike so if the battery ever dies you can take the seat off and the plug is right there just plug it into an extension cord to the house and youre good to go.

I have a 14t sprocket laying around the house that I can't find and I plan on getting a set of Sonic Spring .85 front springs and new front fork seals, the stock ones are for a 60lb girl and one of my fork leaks a bit hence the rag that's currently taped on it, lol.

All in all I wasnt planning on getting a bike but I went out and got my license once this mad Max looking machine came into my life.

It's awesome, I get dusted on the main roads but I can hang with any bike on the side roads, thing corners fearlessly and I get compliments on it all the time lol. I laugh cuz they probably think it's a good motorcycle when it was likely on it way to the junk yard before I got my hands on it.

Hope I gave someone some mod ideas.

Thanks for reading.

Cool, and nice save.  A couple thoughts;

They make quick connects and/or battery chargers with pigtails so you don't have to have the whole thing zip tied to the side like that.

Like the chopped seat, but some type of short rounded cap back there would set it off.

Have fun
