Recently for the first 10 seconds or so that the bike is warming up the exhaust emits visible smoke.  I recently changed the oil and oil filter, spark plugs, air filter and rejetted however (still working on the right combination of needle washers and jets).
I'm sure that this is happening as a result of one of the changes I've made as it did not do it before and not some kind of an engine issue like pistons or rings.
I just ordered a K&N drop in and am waiting for it to arrive so that will require additional changes to the jets, etc but has anyone else seen anything like this at startup?

You probably overfilled the oil.

You probably also won't need to rejet for a k+n drop in. But you will accelerate wear on the top end of the engine by a significant amount.

For what I know.. is no connection with fuel system.

If your bike is smoking only at the start... is likely to be related to valves (guides/stem)... However Mr72 also has a point

Check the service manual 3-22

and also the troubleshooting

The oil level was perfect after the oil change.  I'll double check it.

As for the valves,  I suppose anything is possible but it seems coincidental that it didn't do it until the stuff I changed.

Thanks for the responses.

That's what I thought too but I had to take out nearly half a quart before mine stopped smoking. Now I fill only to about 3mm below the full mark. Mine also leaked out the right side crank seal when it was spot on the top of the hatch mark on the dipstick.

It's normal to see an amount of white smoke on a cold startup, particularly if the bike has been out in cold weather. Condensation forms internally on cold metal parts and it boils off as steam and gets thrown out of the pipe as things warm up.

However if it's concerning you, you need to determine if its, water, oil or a jetting issue.

Hold a piece of white card over the exhaust, if it's oil you will see black droplets. If it's water, either in the fuel or collecting in the pipe you will see clear droplets. If you see neither it's carb/ mixture related.

Do you have a stock silerncer/muffler? There should be a drain hole underneath at the lowest point, check it is not blocked.

An overly lean mixture can also produce white smoke. Are you seeing difficulty starting, poping and backfiring on the overun, hanging idle or erratic tickover? These are (some) of the signs.

Didn't do it before the oil change, does it after, #1 cause in the service manual, I say oil level. Easy to check or try.

they're not suppose to create a cloud of smoke on startup?

geeze, my bike sure sets those standards low. I can smoke out the whole parking lot where I work on a good day!
