Hi all,

Hope summer is treating you well. I'm having a bit of issue with the choke on my 2001 gs. I found the choke was only engaging halfway. After a bit of troubleshooting I pulled the carbs - it appears the "choke slides" (not sure if this is the proper term) only move half the length they're supposed to. I looked but was only able to find a couple threads that were on the topic as most thought it was stuck cable issue. I'm not really sure how to resolve this problem - I sprayed penetrating oil where the cable enters but haven't had luck so far in freeing the slides. I'll post photos tomorrows as I realize the above explanation may be a bit vague. Anyway, has anyone else had this problem?

I think it could be one of two things.......

Either the linkage between the two carbs is binding somewhere or one (or possibly both) of the choke plungers is sticking in the carb body.

I would remove the linkage completely and examine it and try to move both the plumbers by hand with the linkage off and attempt to narrow it down  :dunno_black:

Not sure what you mean by choke slides. I had this problem with my 2000 GS500

I think I fixed it to some degree by re-routing my cable but I then send my carbs off the be cleaned and refurbished.
The guy put in a new pair of carb slides as part of the job and all my troubles are gone. Don't know if that was the issue either.
They looked like this.

Yeah it looks the it's the plungers - what's weird is that they'll move all the way out but will only go in half way - meaning the choke will engage up to half way and than it stops. Super weird but I'm not sure if I should try and take the whole thing apart.

Endopotential

I had to put some plastic washers on the mounting screws, to make sure that the sliding track ran level.  Prior to that, the track was off kilter and the slide would bind along the way.
Hope this may help!
