On my gs on the left ( gear changer side)  about level with the topof the gearbox there is what looks to be a bung in the frame. I  want to know if i can remove it because  i am fitting a kliktronic electronic gear changer and the pivot on the  bracket would fit nicely in  the hole ... it seems to be metal and it only exists on the gear changer side ... Anyone know ? Cheers folks

If it's what I think it you are talking about it's a plastic plug that covers a hole in the frame that gives access to one of the boots in the rear suspension linkage. The plug will flick out if you are careful.

Now we can refer to that access port as the "bung hole"  :D

Hi All .. thanks for the bung related replies .. However I thunk the bung-like thing I am after is higher up and only on the one side . I see the bungs  you refer and to and raise you a higher bung ... and the higher bung seems to be metal .. signed - Bungditin

Haynes manual section 5:12

"Access to the shock absorber upper mounting bolt is best achieved via the hole in the left hand side of the frame. Remove the blanking cap and etc etc etc........ "

Unless someone has in the past for some reason out another hole and cap in there ( in which case there would be 3) there is no other explaination  :dunno_black:

Hi Sledge ... you are right and others too .... the confusion is at my end ... For some reason  what is in the manual is a plastic cap has been changed on my bike for a much more substantial metal bung... Its an old bike and I have no idea about the history . Just checked it in the manual as you pointed out Sledge ... I guess I can remove that and use the space to aid fitting the kliktronic device ... Thankyou for the advice.. Once again this forum has helped , its a great resource and a good feeling to be part of the GS community as such ... cheers
Now  only the brocken exhaust studd , the lack of a chain slider , the flakey wheel paint , the cracked fairing , the brake adaptio( Both brakes on the handle bar) , the rusty tank lined , the side lights , kliktronic fitted, slight lag when giving it many beans , wobbly speedo and ... oh who knows to sort ... its a riding project and I love the thing ... tomorrow the weather here in the UK is said to be good  and I will be out at some point hunting corners
