Hello,

New member but old guy. Even tho I replied to old post I thought I'd also do new post just in case folks are only catching new post.

My grandson and I resurrected my son's 92 GS500E after it laid dormant for 12 years. Got the bike up and running and it runs great just need to sync the carbs. New fuel petcock, battery, plugs and oil and have since put 200miles on it trouble free. Then I went to the store came out to start bike and nothing. No clicks from the relay. Was able to bump start and bike ran fine but still hit starter button nothing.

I am thinking either side stand or neutral switch or starter button or ??. I did replace starter relay solenoid but no change and no clicks so it leads me to believe issue is before relay??

UPDATE!!

Okey Dokey!  it was the clutch safety switch. after reading lots of old replies, and thinking it thru, and since several people stated the clutch safety switch was the easiest to diag I pulled out the switch to clean off the contacts and of course the actual contact do-jiggy fell out. Of course when I tried putting everything back in the copper contact came off the do-jiggy and the itsy bitsy spring went for an adventure. After finding the wayward spring, cleaning the contact on the do-jiggy, my fat fingers and old eyes totally pissed me off, but I finally got it all back in place. I also noticed that the end of the clutch lever made contact with the new bar end mirrors I put on so I moved the clutch down a bit to get full engagement. Whether it was cleaning the contacts or simply moving the clutch lever fixed the problem the result was exciting and I'm ready to roll.

Nice going!  I was going to suggest that one too.  Seems to me that all these switches are redundant and if any one of them fails it can leave you scratching your head.  I need to do what you did with the clutch lever switch too.  Mine has a moving sweet spot that sometimes has me holding the starter button and hunting around with the clutch.  I figure is a matter of time until it fails.
