okay, so i'm getting close to having my bike back together.  i bolted the petcock back onto the frame.  it's got the two fuel hoses that go to the tank still on it, and it's got two more nipples for hoses.  the carbs are in and i see two nipples there for hoses.  so far so good.  the problem is, i have three hoses lying around.  (the two from the stock airbox are still connected to the stock airbox, so it's not one of those.)

1) if i'm looking at the bike, from the left side, the petcock has one hose aimed left, and one aimed right.  i presume these are "on" and "reserve".  which one is which?

2) what is the routing for the remaing two nipples between the petcock and carbs?

3) what the hell is this extra hose for?

thanks,
dan

When the 2nd Amendment is lost, the rest will soon follow.

Yeah that was me.    One of my rides

i can't remember but i'm pretty sure that the shorter one is the reserve and the longer is ON....it should say on the petcock...there should be an R on the side of the petcock...

Kerry

Sorry GRU - the RES outlet is the longer of the two.  That darned BikeBandit diagram (where the fuel tank petcock is spun 180 degrees for ... clarity?) is confusing if you take it at face value.

For a text-only description of what goes where, see my post in the OLD thread fuel line routing info?.

PS - What happened to your nice labeled pictures in the fuel and vacuum hoses thread?

The extra hose attaches tot eh tank and goes no where unless you live in california and then it goes to the no smog tank thing (blanking on the name of the part)

okay... the extra hose must be the one that connects to the top t that doesn't go anywhere.  i think i got it straight now.

For future reference, I've added a page to my website that describes where the various hoses go - with photos courtesy of GRU.

I made a one-page printable PDF of GRU's pics and Kerry's instructions (with a coupl'a mods) at http://grapeape.specialgreen.com/~bcarlson/gs500/images/HoseRouting.pdf ... suitable to print-out and stick in your Clymer manual:

BTW, are the original pics (without the numbers) available?  I'd like to label the corresponding ends 1A and 1B, 2A and 2B, etc, so that the pictures are self-explanatory.
You cannot escape our master plan!
