Hey guys, I've been looking around the forums to try and find answers to a few issues i have with my GS. I think some of the issues may be related but I'm not 100% sure.
I currently have a 94 GS500e.

1) currently my bike wont start at all, the lights and everything come one but when i press to start nothing happens. It doesn't even turn over, just nothing. I was able to ride it a month ago with no issues. The battery has been on a tender, and i even replaced the starter solenoid because i thought that might be an issue, but no such luck

2) My bike doesn't seem to know its in neutral. It started when the neutral light stopped coming on and now (before it stopped starting) it wont start with the kickstand down, even when its in neutral. Does the switch at the bottom need to be cleaned or is it some other issue all together?

3) neutral is finicky. When i'm quickly accelerating in second, and sometimes third gear, it will slip into neutral. This has even happened when accelerating in first. Along with this, sometimes when slowing down and i shift into neutral, it doesn't want to shift out, and will even grind gears when trying to shift out. I either have to come to a complete stop or cringe as i force it into first or second.

If yall know what could be causing these issues please let me know. Also i'll be happy to provide any further info i can.

1: Check your switches and wiring on the clutch lever and kick stand.  The kick stand one can get crudded up and corroded.  Good spray of WD40 or similar product and keep pushing the switch in and out to release any crap.  The clutch one has push in pins which can move, check these.  If these switches are faulty the bike will not turn over or provide power to the starter.  Check your kill switch too, clean that too.

2: Check the neutral bulb hasn't blown first, then proceed to checking the neutral switch at the gear box

3: Gear boxes are not my thing , but it sounds like you may have a worn gear selector/fork/bearing. the gearbox is a constant mesh which means all the cogs spin at the same time, so they cannot grind.  So there is an issue here, may be worn cogs???  But it sounds like something needs replacing?  :o

Hope this helps.......
I ride because it gives me the space to empty my mind off all that is bad and refill it with good.

It may seem obvious, but are you pulling in the clutch lever when hitting the start button? After a short hiatus, I made the same mistake and thought my battery was shot. Turns out I had forgotten that the clutch has a switch.

A quick and cheap check before digging in deeper!

It's normal for your bike to not want to shift out of neutral whilst moving. The clutch is between the engine and the transmission, not the transmission and the rear wheel, and neutral doesn't engage with the output shaft, so if you shift into neutral whilst moving you're basically smashing a spinning gear connected to your rear wheel into a stationary one.

So it's best not to do it. If you accidentally shift into true neutral, you have to come to basically a complete stop and then shift back. Otherwise you risk damaging your gearbox.

That said, if you slip out of 3rd or a higher gear, that's a false neutral. If you hit a false neutral, you can shift to fix it whilst moving, since when that happens you're not actually in neutral but rather between two spinning gears constantly engaged with the output shaft.

If you slip out of gear a lot, there are two possibilities: either your transmission is damaged/worn, or you're not shifting hard enough.
