No it's the subframe covers on the sides

No it's the subframe covers on the sides. The gs500e didn't have fairings, they started fairings with the gs500f

Those color-painted frame side covers are called fairings by many people.

I have a set for a 1991 GS500E in blue for sale if you are interested.

I bought them as spares from Patrick Adidasguy, our friend,  before he died.

I will sell them to someone who needs them and appreciates them.
