Hello,

I have an engine for sale out of a 2004 GS500F. It had some bottom end problems. It was knocking loudly, but ran. I bought the bike that way so I don't really know the history. I put a used ebay engine in it instead.

I am willing to part out this one to see if I can help out a fellow member. I'm not looking for much, just pay shipping and maybe 10-20 dollars a part for my time. I plan to try here first before I look to ebay.

Notes: Clutch cover is cracked and would leak oil (it was damaged during shipping on the new engine I bought so I took the one from this engine and put the bad one on this one). The cam shims are missing. I pulled them to hopefully find one that was the right size for the new engine since it had one tight valve, but none of them were correct. I believe the head is good, but not sure condition of bottom end other than all the clunking. Stator cover and stator are good. I checked the compression and both cylinders were above 120 psi before I yanked it.

Let me know if I can help anyone out. For refernce, it cost me 160 to ship the whole engine. I'm not sure I want to deal with that, so I'm more interested in selling parts that can fit in USPS flat rate boxes.

I really wanna try replacing the nasty corroded sleeves in my cylinder block. I'll buy the ones you got if they're in serviceble condition. Any chance we can work out a deal?

A rod knock could leave the sleeves too far oval because the piston can move front to back a lot more than allowed. Also the counter weights in the crank may have hit the bottom of the cylinder sleeves if the crank bearings were bad. Your corroded sleeves may just need to be honed and have everything mic'ed and have hand fitted rings.
Cool.
