GS500F. No electricity

Hi everyone, I have a 2008 GS500F. It passed inspection last weekend and so I was riding it around for a few hours. As I pulled into my driveway, I hit a small pot hole and the bike went dead. I've recharged the battery and tried again but there is no power. Lights aren't working, nothing. It felt like something hit the bottom of the motorcycle but there aren't any wires down there. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Can you even get basic things, like the headlight or dashlights on when you turn the key on?

Start with simple things first.  Check the screws to the battery, and the ground point on the negative terminal. Then check that none of your fuses have blown.  Then look at your wires to make sure you don't see anything loose that could cause a short circuit.

If not that, then it gets more complicated...

Sounds like the fuse is blown if there is absolutely nothing working. Make sure you aren't checking the spare fuse when you check the fuse. The way the spare fuse is stored kinda looks like its the main fuse.

Second guess would be a broken side stand switch from the impact but in that case the headlight/tailight would still come on with the key.

I would second checking the fuse under the seat and any wireing going from the battery and after that the sude stand switch , its likely something simple ... best of luck ... I had something similar once and it was just a bad contact on the fuse and  simply needed a quick clean

Can you elaborate on where the main fuse is and where the spare one is?

Fuse in on the right side just behind the battery. The spare is right next to it and peiple tend to check teh spare (its in a right plastic/rubber pocket) and think they checked the in use fuse - which goes into a pair of metal prong terminals. Make sure you check the one that seats into metal.

Sorry to hear about all these carb issues. Never had the F style, but I feel like the 2001-2002 were the best years.

I purchased my 2002 with 14k miles and fixed the previous owner's mistakes (needle jet, hose routing, etc.). The bike now has 70k and I've never had to open the carbs since and it still idles perfectly unlike the pre 2001 GS500Es I've had.
