First off hello all from East TN, now on to my issue , i just purchased my first suzuki its a 2007 gs500f, bought it running but roughly, i trailered it back home and the thing hasn't ran right since day 1 here, first off its all stock, except a K&N drop in filter 13000 miles on it, it leaks fuel out of the lower holes on the on the intake box side cleaned carb and checked everything, still leaks, when I get it to start it almost always idles up to 4000 rpm with no choke hangs then bogs down and dies if i apply any throttle, also it backfires through the carb, also it wont start if its choked, any direction or advice would be most helpful
Things ive check:
Float height is set at 13mm
Carb fully cleaned and air fuel mix backed out 2 turns
No vac leaks
Compression is great
All jets are stock size and new

Two things. If it's leaking fuel then it probably has sticking float needle valves. That could cause all of the other issues.

Also, with stock jets that is going to in super lean. While you have it apart changing the float needle put a 20 pilot jet in and put the stock paper air filter back in instead of the useless k&n. Then adjust the idle mixture and speed according to this random blog post that has helped other people.

So modest!

Great advice. As an alternative to throwing out the K&N filter, make sure it has the restrictor ring in place.

What does the inside of the tank look like? If it has been sitting for 6+ months it may have junk gas or rust in the tank that will continue to cause issues no matter how well you clean the carb.

Aside from making it hard to tune, k&n are just bad at filtering dirt.
