Title says it all, I'm seeking measurements for the stock tail/brake light. I read on this forum from time to time but am mainly on GSresources and DTT every once in awhile. Looking to fully replace the bulky stock light on my 1981 GS450S. I'll mess with the mounting of course but looking to get something quite a bit smaller and (used) Suzuki factory lighting so it's quality instead of the Chinese aftermarket ugly crap out there. I plan to also follow user "xunedeinx" thread on the Walmart trailer led retrofit upgrade for the light to increase visibility. If you happen to take pictures with your measurements and prefer to simply text them to me instead of posting them my number is 614-77four-8six8four. Just trying to get an idea if it would look natural on my bikes tail. Hopefully it measures out well and I can snag one used on eBay soon! Thanks!

Even though I have a '98, I have the F style tail light installed. When I get home from work later, I can take some measurements for you and post them if nobody beats me to it.

I'm certainly a fan of using Suzuki parts from different bikes instead of always going the aftermarket route!

Sounds good! Thanks man! Measured mine tonight, 7" wide! Crazy big. My buddies 82 650G (673cc) is in the garage for a top end rebuild and his taillight measures the same. GS  AKA "General Suzuki" is no joke!

BTW if you fit the 01+ tail and tail light and seat etc onto a 89-00 - you can get a far far better fit of tail light to tail plastic to the effect of it being a flush fit.
Cool.

I hope these pics help!

Above and beyond my friend ! Thanks! Looks perfect for my tail section. The lip of my tail overhangs a few inches and is about 6" wide. Can't wait to get one on.

Got this on. Essentially I removed the back plastic housing that the original 450 light mounts to (the plastic housing mounts to the light and to the fender) and hacked it up a bit. The two holes from the 450 housing that mounted to the light lined up perfectly with the GS500 light. I have some empty space above to mold some plastic to tidy it up a bit but otherwise I'm really happy with this. I love that I have it lookin as stock as possible and I didn't have to fab up anything! . New LED signals front and rear (rear  mounted to housing nicely. Soldered  in a diode and installed a flasher(got both from sparckmoto.com, quality, affordable stuff). Before and after pics attached. The after includes the GS550 35mm fork swap/rebuild/polish and fork ear replacement. Also took those pics before the diode install so all 4 flashed at once. A tail light bulb is out as you can tell in the photo but I swapped that out with the stock bulb, all good now. Not too bad overall for $40 in lighting for turn signals and the GS500 tail light.

@drey6, FFS, delete all those images and upload them at https://postimages.org for free, then put the code for forums, or choose the resize option when uploading. But as they are it's impossible for anyone to view them, without a great deal of drama.

Never mind I did it for you.
