Hello all,
I am new to all this & I really need help.
My 2005 GS500F was in the shop for over 1 year. One day I got a call that the bike is ready.
Being winter I just took the bike home. Last week I charged the battery to ride it.. and guess what.. missing fuel hoses, missing parts.. etc etc etc.

Ordered a Carburator & missing hoses.. but need some help.
I live in Barre VERMONT (USA) and there are no mechanics close at all.

Bike will start on PRI with Choke ON - only.
I have some pictures with some questions, if anyone can spare a second to help.

I don't know where the circled things in the pictures below go/do..

I'm pretty sure that the top photo is just a breather hose, it drapes over and behind the air box and is open to the atmosphere.

There are two electrical components on the carb, one of them is on the right side of the carb and connects to the CDI controller as it senses the butterfly position. The other one is on the bottom of the carburettor and is part of all the bullshit hoses which do nothing at all, and can be removed and thrown away. I'm pretty sure but I'll check tomorrow that the second photo connects to that solenoid at the bottom of the carburettor which you can remove.

I would suggest getting rid of all the utterly unnecessary hoses. Trust me they do nothing at all other than open up opportunities for vacuum leaks. This is all you need on the carburettor...

See those two white plastic things on the top of the carburettor, well that electrical component on the bottom of the carburettor opens a relay that allows the atomosphere to get into the top of the carburettor. This has all been disconnected. The electrical component at the bottom of the carb has been removed, so those white valves will never open, that's what that wiring in your second photo connects to. So that little air filter you see at the top is blocked off, there's some white plastic you can see sticking out the bottom of it where it connects in between the carbs, it is sealed off. But it probably can be removed completely because those valves are never going to open now anyway. I have connected the white valves together with a bit of leftover hose, but it's not doing anything, again, it's just sealing off those valves. So those white valves are doing nothing at all.

All you need is the vacuum hose that goes from the fuel petcock to the right hand carb, because the hoses are different sizes the small vacuum hose is coming off the carb and I have used a T piece to attach a larger diameter hose that runs to the petcock because it's a vacuum operated petcock. If I could find a straight piece that connects the two different sized hoses that would be good, as it is I just sealed the unwanted extra hole caused by having a T join, by attaching a bit of hose bending it back and binding it with copper wire. A lot of people advise to put a non vacuum manually operated petcock on but I'm with the late Adidasguy Patrick Lajko who advises leaving the petcock as it is, unless you are having problems. I've never had a problem with my petcock which I find works very well.

I knew nothing when I started this so I was very concerned about doing this, but I can assure you because I did all the tests and gradually removed everything as I became certain that it does absolutely no good whatsoever. I'll post a few links about this and you can gradually see my journey on how I finally ended up with the above photo.

However having said that I believe there are some bikes maybe from California, that have some other little gizmo attached that link into those hoses and that may be a little more complicated, I do not have that and I've never seen it myself, you'll be able to easily see if you have one of those bikes because it's bolted to the frame, so maybe take a photo of the top of the bike with the tank off and lets have a look.

OK I found a shot of a GS with the PAIR system, if you do not have that thing bolted to your frame then you're definitely good to remove all the crap hoses, if it is there, better to wait till someone who knows about that can answer. EDIT, that can be removed too see the links at the bottom.

See the S shaped hose and the little air filter that I've blocked off at the top of the carb, I could just take all that off and it would make no difference I just having bothered. Maybe good to leave it on as extra insurance against the plastic valves leaking.

More information on that valves in this thread http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=57529.0

Here's the video that's also in the above thread. https://youtu.be/FyA-L5XIYpo

TL : DR The only hoses you need attached, is the fuel hose coming out the bottom, the breather hose that comes out the top and drapes back over the airbox (NOT the one between the white caps) and the vacuum hose that comes off the left carburettor, and you don't even need that if you install a manual petcock and  cap the vacuum port like it is on the right hand carburettor.
