Hello,

Hello Terandir,

That sounds completely fine to me. But as you move around the engine you'll have all sorts of different sounds accentuated. If you mean that tapping clicky sound over the engine that's just normal tappet tapping away, as they do.

So then let's hear your story, just bought this, have you got some big plans? Tell us all about it. She looks pretty sweet, in that fetching red livery.

btw Welcome to the best GS500 forum in this part of the Galaxy.

Hello,

Yes, this clicky sound. You can hear it at 0:07. It started on the end of last season. I'm a little bit worried.

I bought her 2 years ago and it's a funny one. After leaving seller, headlight died and I drove 60km without light
through a small villages. Sometimes there weren't street lights. It took me around 3 hours to home. This year I changed clutch, timing chain, carb cleaning, valve clearance check and adjustment.

I don't think that sounds fine. It's definitely not the classic GS500 camshaft end play noise, which is kind of a ker-klunk...ker-clunk sound at idle, a really slow kind of sound.

That constant "tapping" actually sounds like what I'd call a "knock". Depending on where the microphone was when you recorded it, etc. I'll let others with specific knowledge of what a knocking like this means on a GS engine chime in, but I say that's not at all normal.

Sounds like a normal GS500 engine to me. Sewing machine sound is normal.

Sounds like the pistons are about to pop out the cylinder head to me! Piston rings? or maybe it's just the sound recording.

Knocking is a better term. First 7s I was holding phone above fuel tank, after that mictophone was close to left side of engine. I coulnd find place whene sound comes from. I'm almost sure that knocking isn't good. Last week I changed oil and didn't find filings in oil or filter. Maybe it isn't piston bearing.

I checked axial play timing camshaft, if it looks good? https://youtu.be/Y7eNi2asWDg ?
