New owner of an 06 GS500f that I got for dirt cheap thanks to the previous owner losing his keys and not wanting to deal with it. I replaced the ignition switch, tank cap, and seat release with a new set. I fell victim to the lovely torque to destruction screws that hold the ignition switch on and thought I would end up having to cut it off. I ended up finding an easier way and would like to share with y'all in case anyone needs it. This way still requires you to take the triple tree off but it's a pretty easy job on these bikes if you don't have the front fairing like mine. I took the triple tree off and was about to grind the switch down to cut slots in the screws for a flathead but decided to try one more thing first. I took a 4mm socket and an extension and put it on the nub left over on the screw. Gave the extension a good hit with a hammer and it moved the switch slightly with loosened the screws up enough to turn the triple tree upside down and then unscrew them with the 4mm by hand. Now what you do with the screws is up to you, but I just put them in a vise and ground some flathead slots in them for my ease later but I'm sure you could replace them with something nicer. Just hoping to help someone out in the future with their gs!
