Making room under the seat

I'd like more room under the seat... I'm sure a lot of us would.. As I'm sure a lot of us have come up with ideas.

What advice can be given on lowering the battery? I don't think it will hit anything if I drop it down 50mm and then that's some room on top for me to put an electrical box to hide the wiring.

I'm thinking about the same with the mudguard. If I stiffen up the suspension and lower the back mudguard does anyone think it will still bottom out? I'm thinking of dropping this 100mm.

As always, thanks for the responses.

Do you ever carry a pillion? My 450's not quite the same, but what I've done is made the pillion area into a compartment. In my case it's a metal seat pan, so I welded some steel over where the pillion area is and cut out the rear part underneath so I can access it after taking the seat off. The seat is upholstered over the steel so it looks normal. It's big enough for my toolbag, spare clutch cable, and a rag.

Under the battery box is a welded in support. Are you  going to cut it out?
A shorter lithium battery would gain some space.
I'd have look at my bike and visualize, but it seems that removing the air box for a lunchbox or pods opens up space.
Used Suzuki GS500 = motorcycle adventure without leaving the shop.

Thanks peteGS but that solution isn't for me. Saw that while searching and it's great to hear someone followed through, do you have pics up of it?

Hey Sporty, yeah I would lower the support, nothing fancy tbh I think a couple of angle brackets and some paint would work. I would love the lunchbox but I'm not confident in jetting or modifying that function of the bike yet.

It really just looks like a waste of empty space to me is there a reason this isn't being talked about as an easier option to the lunchbox?.. What am I missing..

That's cool, figured it was worth a mention. I thought I had some pics around but doesn't seem like I do unfortunately. Nothing in Flickr and I can't even find them on my phone now either  :dunno_black:
