New guys and Oil Cooler Question

Hello GSTwins!

I'm sure that this question has been asked 1000 times, BUT I'll preface this with the circumstance that I'm doing a full teardown/rebuild.

New to the forum, but not to wrenching! I bought this '92 a couple of weeks ago as a quick fix and daily rider while I rebuild my CX500, but I was greeted with some gnarly engine knock, hence the rebuild. Now I have two project bikes... So far the handlebars have been swapped with the top yoke refreshed. Things on the way - R6 rear shock, new to me tach, and a replacement engine for the interim.


Ok, onto the question, what are the required parts to add the factory oil cooler to the E engine? From what I can tell the sump cover is the main component needed for providing the oil cooler lines, but are there any other internal components that are different? Are there differences in the oil pump or oil passages in the crankcase?

AFAIK, the only difference is the sump cover and the sump cover gasket. Obviously, you will also need the oil lines, crush washers, oil cooler, and a way to mount it (E model frame will be missing the mounting point).
Why do you want the oil cooler? It was only added on the 2004+ bikes because the fairing blocked airflow to parts of the engine. If you are leaving the bike naked it shouldn't need an oil cooler.
