European GS500 VIN number

Hi! Trying to register my GS500, and it doesn't contain VIN on its frame plate (only frame number here), nor in its German documents (also just the frame number). Any ideas how could I find out its full 17-character VIN? (

Dunno how it works in Germany but here in the UK, prior to 1 Aug 1999 bikes didn't need a VIN..........just a frame number.

Isn't there some sort of national licensing authority you can ask?
