How to unlower a GS500

Hello.

A friend of mine is selling her bike to me but the bike is lowered. Is there a way for me 'unlower' the bike?

i saw some older post about needing to buy raising links but not sure if that information is still relevant in 2021.

How was it lowered ? With a shorter shock ? or stock shock but longer dogbones ?
Either of those need to be set back to stock. Remember longer dogbones = lower and shorter for raise.

Front can just be pushed back to the stock height.

Good, are there stock dogbones in the parts pile ? Swap those in.

Agreed, installing OEM links will set the bike to stock height again. The chain may need to be re-adjusted to stock spec as well.

I'm wondering if the side stand was changed/modified too. The stock kickstand and stock height didn't have enough lean for my personal liking... I imagine it'd be even worse with the bike lowered.

Oh yea side stand is another one they probably had to cut and shorten, but look around for a piece of 2X4 to drop under it in case of emergency till you locate a stock one.

Those are adjustable lowering links with the stock shock, so all you probably need to do is move the bolt to the other hole in the dog bone (the silver thing).
As others have said, also check to see if the front forks have been raised in the tripe tree to match the lowering on the front of the bike. You will have to support the bike somehow, Loosen the nuts holding the forks, and raise the forks back to stock height (roughly flush with the handle bar clamp plate).
Show us a picture of the front forks and the kickstand and we can let you know if you need to do anything there.

Yea He's (Bluesmudge) right and it doesn't seem like much, but its got like a 1:4 or 6 or whatever magnification factor. So park the bike on center stand on a 2X4 or something or hang the bike up with rear 3-4" off the ground.

Sorry for the long delay guys. The front forks were not adjusted and now I am the owner of this bike! This will not be my 3rd GS500 that is also in the best condition. Since the bike has been sitting for a couple of years I will need to change all of the fluids and see if anything is clogged. First thing's first is to get a new battery and get the link adjusted. Thank you all for taking the time to answer my questions!
