So I got some interesting news... I messaged the PO if he ever adjusted the valves and he responded by saying the fuel petcock might not be the right one and he changed the fuel lines...

I'm a little worried about this text message as I heard valves need to be adjusted every 4k miles or there abouts, I am definitely looking into adjusting the valves now. Does anyone know where I can get the proper shims, I'm probably just going to measure them then order the correct size I need but I can only find shims that ship from america or 100$ sets from amazon.

*also I still have a post on the bottom of the first page sorry!*

Never saw the picture of your carbs so I can't confirm the vacuum lines are wrong, but once you do I can help you since we have a similar bike.

as for parts, you can go to motorcycle dealerships and have them order parts for you, last time I ordered a battery from them and it took 3 business days to get here, fully charged and tested and ready to go. it was more expensive than Fortnite but it was fast and I need it asap. check out your local motorcycle dealers, just give them a call and tell them what you need.

don't get shim sets because about 95% of the shims you will not be needing them. Unfortunately, there aren't many options for Canadians that I can find. but I will defiantly check with a motorcycle dealer too.

mr72's signature has a great article about diagnosing your carbs. it contains so much information that it may take you a few reads to fully understand all, and I highly recommended it.

Thanks for the props. I just updated that article this morning. It mostly deals with '89-00 carbs but the info will mostly translate to the later bikes.

Order 29.5mm shims from your Suzuki dealer. 1 at a time once you know exactly which size you need. The are like $15 each but you should only need a handful for the life of the bike.
Suzuki recommends 4,000 miles checks to cover their ass but I usually see 10,000 miles or more between shim changes. Checking every 4,000 miles lets keep better track of the rate of valve clearance change but its overly cautious.

that 4k mile interval gives me a target for how many miles per year to put on this bike... actually I might be overdue. Top end rebuild was at 21K. Forever mileage should be <25K then, so I never have to check the valves again.

And make sure you dont get those fake a$$ chinese cast crap they had going around a few yrs ago which brok and destroyed a few motors.
