Hello all!
So I have bought some progressive springs to upgrade the front suspension on the GS, but they are 65mm (not 6.5mm) shorter than or original springs!
Have I messed up? Or is it a case of adding a spacer to make them the same length.
It's the 1997 gs500ev
And the progressive springs are from here.

Have had a good search through the forum but no one mentions them being shorter. Mostly longer and having to shorten spacers :-(
Cheers ay!

Have never heard of YSS springs and don't know anything of the relationship to Progressive springs here https://www.progressivesuspension.com/

The YSS springs are progressively wound as opposed to linear, which are generic terms. You have likely seen references to the company Progressive Suspension, as progressive springs on this board.

I have the Progressive Suspension springs in my 05'. The years listed are from 89-2002. They are very close to 20" and a.75mm spacer is recommended.
I find they work well. That exact same set was also the replacement for 25 other bikes listed in the instructions.(ninja500,klr,virago1100,)
The only difference is the spacer length. The Kawasaki Vulcan 750's use the same set with a 7 inch spacer.

The stock set-up is a pain to install, because the spacers sit so high over the top of the fork tube, you have to be careful not to cross-thread the caps.
It could just be that the YYS' don't need so much pre-load (stronger springs) and your ride height will remain the same.

If your front end is feels too low after the install you are probably ok with just using a longer spacer (PVC pipe is very easy to cut/use) to adjust it.

Hey thanks for the info and links guys they are great. This forum is brilliant.
With the original spacers and new yss springs in there is no preload (when the bikes up on its stand). I could put the caps on with no resistance,  so I will try adding spacers to make them the same length as the originals springs and see how it feels.
I had tried to order from both progressive springs and sonic springs but had a load of problems with material supply issues and stuff. Might try again in the future if this doesn't work out.
