Hi all, i'm abit foxed with this issue. i'm putting a 2006 back on the road & found when i push down on the front suspension right at the bottom of the ''stroke'' so to speak there's ''play'' somewhere as i can see the front move but ive tested side to side with the wheel off the ground & cant feel any play. Same when i tested the steering bearings. Its odd it only does it with the front brake on under pressure as i push down. just to add ive never actually ridden this bike yet.

What part of the front brake do you see move? The caliper or the rotor?

You can test the wheel bearing by taking the wheel off and feeling the bearing with your finger. It should spin smoothly and have no side to side play.

there's no movement in the brakes itself but i can feel & see slight play on the wheel & feel in the forks. i might change the fork oil as i havent yet, so could possibly be not enough or wrong spec in there

Stem bearing or could just be loose?  My little 125 had stem bearings go bad so I did them and was good for a bit then felt the 'play' you're talking about.  Tightened it up a bit more and been good since.
