Airbox full of fuel

Never really had a problem with my K4. I ride it everyday and all is good until this morning I went into my garage to find my airbox is full of clean fuel and has leaked everywhere. I don't leave the tap on Prime either. Any ideas while it suddenly happened? Cheers Chris.

The only time this happened to me was when I accidently left my fuel tap on prime - so mayhap theres a prob with your tap (or memory  )?

Probably the floats in the carburetors arent closing the valve correctly. Happened to me once, bent a little bit the tabs that controls the fuel level inside the carbs and problem fixed. Adding to this, if you didnt leave the tap on prime, maybe the membrane inside the petcock has a vaccum leak.

The easiest thing to do in this case is replace or rebuild the frame petcock since you said you did not leave it on Prime. When it is set to On or Res, the fuel should be stopped there and not go any further to overflow the carbs.

Once you do that, if you feel comfortable digging into the carbs, that is the next step.

Don't forget to check the oil level in the engine... if it's overfull and smells of fuel, you will have to change it because the oil is now contaminated with fuel.

So I have fuel coming out the petcock when it's in the "on" position with engine off obviously. I'm guessing that probably something to do with it. I have a new kit on its way. Thanks 👍

For this to happen, you have to have two things go wrong. First the frame petcock has to malfunction by allowing fuel to pass when there isn't a vacuum (aka, engine running or being turned over by the starter). Then one or both float valves in the carbs have to have a poor seal so that gas can pass through and overflow into the airbox (or float height is set to high but this is unlikely if the bike seems to run good).

So you will probably need a new petcock and new float valves/seats.
