So I have a 97 gs500e and I have recently replaced a CDI box after losing spark to both sides. After I replaced the box it ran really well for a while, even got a few full days and nights of riding. Keep in mind I've been avoiding replacing my bad battery so I've been pop starting every time I go for a ride. Recently I went to the store on my bike pop started rode it there and by the time it took to go in and buy a new battery It got its symptoms of no spark on either side, after replacing the battery I get the engine to crank and lights but no spark so I think I blew another CDI, what is causing this, do I need to replace the rectifier as well or something. Also all my lights on the bike have been swapped to LED's if that makes a difference

check voltages,  regulator/rectifier could be frying it, also bad intermitent connctions with every piece ok will fry it.
, inspect and clen every connector, tighten every bolt, nothing should be loose

shunt rr will get hotter with less load.
your best bet is to change the RR for something modern Mosfet based if you are running full leds

I have noticed weird places in the harness, though I always traced it back to accessories and non essentials. never thought it could fry the ignition system, thankyou for the response will look into it!

any false contact, intermitent contact can fry anything, even catch on fire from inrush current/spikes generated
