Where can I rep you for that info Blue?!  Shazammin great stuff there!

Ended up combing through my attic junkpile and found a pristine rectifier which didn't get hot at all. :dunno_black: So back to riding.

I'm working on a FXR and doing some paint which usually is super annoying but seems therapeutic now.  shrug again  After I finish the ZX6 I'm going to fix the paint on my 500.

Fail on posting pic of gs all I have is one from zx6 yesterday,..shame

Quote-Old connections get corrosion over time. Its recomended to go through the entire harness and undo each connection and clean it mechanically or at least with some spray contact cleaner. Then some members recomend putting a light coating of deoxit to protect from future corrosion.

This is excellent advice for any of our bikes. They're all old enough to need the connectors cleaned out. This can help prevent and resolve electrical gremlins.

Any bike that's over 10 years old will benefit from this.

Cleaning all the electrical connectors sounds like a lot, but it's really not too bad.

Get a can of electrical contact cleaner that's compatible with plastic connectors. Also get a tube of dielectric grease.

Pull the connectors individually. Spray the cleaner liberally into both sides. Then put a glob of dielectric into one side.

Do that on every electrical connection. It's critical maintenance on a older bike.

Had a nasty short that took me awhile to find.  Ended up being the wire in stalk was pinched on the fairing stay.

Fairing stay also broke again at the base.  Rewelded it with extra support.  Have replaced three out of four fairing brackets as they've broken multiple times and welded them only for them to break again.  Used some flat bar steel and made new ones.  I don't think those things will ever break.

Redid a bunch of wiring to eliminate cheap connectors.  Hmm oh finally got time to make a new fender.  That's a grom fender I cut and molded to fit.  Had to make a bracket that took me all day.  Need to raise the front about a half inch so it'll stop bonking this fender before it cracks like the old one did.  Rewired the stalks to be running lights and the side lights to be blinkers.  The side lights are bulbs and the stalks are leds.  Trying to cut the load on little lithium battery.

Today was first day I've ridden it in about a month.  Of course it was lightly misting and I skidded thru a red light trying not to high side on a turn :hithead:

Maybe I can get back to zx6r now.

Actually washed it yesterday!  Other than that and minor piddly things, I've pretty much just been riding almost every day, rain or shine, to work or wherever.

Obligatory sunny morning pic,...

Also, zx6r came together pretty nicely.  Having some brake issues and trying to figure that out.

Was looking at mp like I shouldn't and saw a turd that I couldn't resist.  Looked like someone had done a fork mod so of course I drove an hour and a half to go get it.  lol

Got home and pulled off the forks.  I guess whoever had them thought they'd fit.  shrug

They don't seem to be in bad shape.  Originally I thought I'd swap everything over to my bike but I'll likely resell them to get rid of them.

Now I have this turd and considering taking it apart and selling it or bringing my old turd build down, fixing the frame with pieces from this.  I can get this engine going and then sell as a running bike.  hmmm  :dunno_black:

Armandorf

ohhhh, this strikes me as gold. I have the same mod to my bike, 06 gsxr 750 front end.
iam rebuilding the stem bearings and did a mindless hammering stem to low triple tee yoke job.
i want to do it right.

could you upload details of the stem, bearings?

If a recall correctly the best method was removing the stem axle froom a carbon steel gs yoke and re inserting it on the aluminum low gsxr yoke.
(Bob broussard)

i hammered it til it mushrommed it but, the gsxr hole is slightly larger, soda can bushing, aluminum tape, welding and machining, a lot of ideas but very afraid of mismatching tolerances wil break the aluminum piece form the inside if it is under too much tension.
Didnt want to steal the post, but i think you are one of the few that could help me with some critical guidance here.

Also, a week ago an AMB/LSL handle bar conversion top yoke arrived and bought 32005 and 32006 ntn bearings last week.

Armandorf I wish I had done a conversion already and could tell you what worked.  That's still one I haven't accomplished personally.  There are some good pages out there with info on them for the gs.  Maybe someday I'll actually successfully do one.

Messing around with this turd.  I couldnt get it to rotate even after soaking.  It looks like the bike was laying on its left side for God knows how long and there is rust and crap in every crevice.  Not really a big deal, but somewhere along the way someone put carbs on it after the intake filled up with leaves, dirt and crap.  shrug.

Next I'll pull off the exhaust, and everything to bare frame.  Going to hack off the tail etc and throw that away.  I need the mounting section that I cut off my old turd's frame. I'll weld that back in and put gs engine back in it.

I guess I will continue over there when I drag that frame out of the attic.

Not sure what is wrong with this engine I got from Phlogistian besides it has a zillion miles on it and mount is collapsed.  I think I'm going to use these two engines to put one engine together, then restore old turd frame for a gs engine and put it all back together and sell it.  That would get alot of stuff out of my attic and put that bike back on the road.

Reading ancient threads from ben2go dgyver and others on sleeving, bigger pistons, decking, etc.  I wish the pictures worked.  I see people talking but I can't find results.  The whole 547cc or more idea is grabbing my interest and I would love to try it.

I'ma jump back to my old thread since that is where I'm going with this.

Sold harley so that was great to get that thing gone!  Was a cool bike with loads of character being an old vet's bike.  Went to a kid in San Antonio that got in an accident and broke both his legs on his first bike.  Healed up and used the insurance money to buy this one.  Wish him luck and God bless him.
