Local (Buffalo, NY) help learning valve adjustment

I recently purchased a 2009 Suzuki gs500f as my first bike and I've been trying to do basic maintenance myself(some fluids, filters, Rebuild carb, basic stuff). I feel like it's starting to develop a louder valve tapping noise and when I was syncing the carbs I blipped the throttle(unwise as I learned the hard way) and the right carb backfired from the intake, which I guess could be due to one of the valves not fully closing? I'd like to try to adjust the valves myself and potentially do the cam chain or cam chain tensioner if needed, but I've read that it's a longer job and easy to mess up. Is there anyone in the area who might be willing to show me their ways for a few six packs or something? If not I'll just attempt the job myself but I'm really interested in learning how to work on bikes and would love some mentor like guidance. I'm a 20 year old and think I would really enjoy working in a shop.

if under load dissapears is the timing chain loose

If you can't find anyone local to walk you through it here's a good vid to get you started.
It isn't that hard you just have to go slowly and be careful

get the tool to press the buckets down, use some cloth to suck up the oil that locks the shims.
beware when turning with the bolts.Consider a new gasket, remove breather cover before to have more clearance
