Morning All! Sorry to re-open a topic (as a possibility).
I own a GS from 1992 with original 39k kms. My first bike and I will never sell it for anything. Just to clarify I am not a dealer. I tend to keep all I buy in house and give them back the life they deserve. Did 150km/h only few times and it's just not my thing and I think bike loves it.

Last year (past few years GS is my 2nd bike for commuting to mums place and back - only few kms ride) I noticed that as I downshiftand approach my gate in slight bit of a speed disengage the clutch full and thorough clanking sound appears. As the bike loses the speed (without the clutch, as I stop in front the gate) the sound gradually disappears but still hearable for 1-2s while motionless and under disengaged clutch. Then it vanishes.

Yesterday, I did 100 and something km's one way with my lady to pick her tractor license (congrats! beer is on me) and with 100-110 km/h I guess load was a bit bigger due to weight and as we approached one road closure due to protest (thing in Serbia these days) the sound appeared as I was stopping. Disengaged the clutch, 2s more and it disappeared. Its not cam chain tensioner as I have that since beginning and I'm used to it. But will sort it out now with this, hopefully not a big problem.

As it didn't give me any peace on the way back, I tested it on each traffic light and slow down. 1st, 2nd, 3rd (all gears in downshift sequence) had made that sound. It appears just under 2k rpms and lower. The lower the harder the sound is.

Please help guys think cause I don't wanna lose this baby. Its still has baby smell.

Cheers from Serbia! And come and visit!

extreme cam walk noise?, check tilting it to both sides on idle when it happens. or is only when in motion?

Thanks for the interest. Means a lot.Sometimes as I decelerate fast and brake with the engine; 4th, 3rd, 2nd and just before I disengage the clutch it starts and holds for another few seconds and vanishes. Few times I did tilt it accidentaly and it stayed loud and sometimes vanished as well. When very hot engine and in use for 1.5hrs noise is louder especially from 1.5k rom and lower. I tested all gears and its present on all.It doesnt happen when still unless Im dragging that speed momentum when breaking a bit harder with intention to stop.Id say its almost always when in motion on lower rpms.I just did mm correct chain slack and clutch lever setting re-set and had no time to test it around but what are your assumptions?Give me few ideas I dont mind testing nor buying new parts; as I sad I love this bike and I just wanna give it the life back eventho its in very good condition.

Thanks in advance!

did you check timing and valve gap? too loose timig chain  could have skipped some teeths on the cams if runs too rough
