First bike, bought recently in running condition but poor idle. Cleaned the carbs and it ran a little better but would die when coming to a stop unless petcock was set to PRI.

Yesterday I realized the PO had the RES and ON fuel lines swapped, it ran smoothly for about 30ft then died. Now it doesn't want to start at all, spark and compression are there.

Seems like it's not getting enough fuel, where should I go from here?

Easiest check first : does it have enough fuel?
Does fuel flow if you open the tank cap ? If so the vent in the cap is blocked.
Is the screw in the tank petcock to control flow in the vertical position?
What condition is the vacuum hose from the carb to the frame petcock in?
If fuel doesn't flow in the pri position there is a block either in the reserve fuel line or the petcock.
What condition are the needles, seats and floats in? Are the floats set to the correct height?

Hope that helps as a start.
You're just jealous because the voices only talk to me.

That helped a ton, I opened the gas cap and put the petcock to prime and got fuel out the drain bowl. Still wasn't starting so I took the tank off and removed the pair system and reseated the intake boot going into the air box because it was crooked.

It still didn't want to start but as soon as I opened the gas cap it fired up. Road it around for about 20 min and it's running like a top. Just need to dial in the air fuel mixture screw and figure out the gas cap situation.

Thanks for the advice, I've been scratching my head on this thing for days now

Its nice to see that the old problems that generated common known failures be broght back on and are helping new people. Please try to write back if you encounter more issues or discover something.
There are some maintenance point to check and prevent. an inline fuel filter is a good modification with old rusty tanks and carbs. air intake boot orings also fail over time. Valve adjustments. Lets hope its only fue starvation, poor idle could also be air leaks, a quick check is to spray something flamable around the carbs and see if rpm raises.
