If a car pulls into your lane....kick the door in

AR5ENAL

this is seriously stupid.  i understand how infuriating it is when cagers run right into your lane, but kicking their doors in?  and then threatening them?  it's dangerous riding a bike....LIVE WITH IT.  i guarantee two things will come out of that situation:

1.  the lady in the car will not start driving better
2.  the lady in the car *will* start hating riders actively

cagers are morons, but acting hostile towards them will only make things worse.  i don't want to see action taken against motorcycle riders because of the bad reputation that a minority of us have earned.

such belligerent behaviour is pretty pointless IMO.  i'd go so far as to say that the rider is making up for feelings of inadequacy, but it's a girl.  maybe one of the girls can say something about whether this overaggressive behaviour has anything to do with being a girl on a fast bike?
They couldn't keep Death out, but while she was in she had to act like a lady.

That was pretty interesting.  I am going to look that up and see who is at fault legally. I just want to know.

I agree with AR5ENAL.  What the lady one the bike did was really stupid.  Instead of thinking and acting on a way of getting out of the situation, she chose to stay close enough to kick that Camry.  I wouldn't want to challenge any car... they have at least a 2000 pound advantage on me!  I think the driver must have blinked when she saw the biker was a woman

Anyways... the whole 'going faster than traffic makes me feel safer' is a bunch of crap.  While in my car, I remember the spacing between cars as I pass them on the highway.  The cars ahead and the ones that pass me I don't care about cause they are ahead of me.  I check my mirrors and blind spots, but there's no way I'm going to see a bike weaving through traffic going 10-20 mph faster than traffic flow.  I go more by spacing than visual cues when changing lanes... so that supposedly 'safer' biker going fast is going to get nudged.

Quotethe whole 'going faster than traffic makes me feel safer' is a bunch of crap.

20mph is not defendable, 3-7mph faster i will agree with. it doesnt matter what you drive, if you going slower then "FLOW" your obstricting traffic and that is dangerous to more then one person. motorcycles fit into blind spots way too easyly, so scooting past the "Average Flow" (not the ones doing warp 3) 3-7mph faster will keep you from being in blind spots for long and it makes you a Moveing object in others "Feild of Vision" as to kicking in doors? yeah its dangerous, so is the person in the car, she might aswell held a gun, potentialy just as leathal. I have posed this same question to numerous cops, Moto and cruiser. all say same thing, "KICK THE BLOODY DOOR IN, either way its thier word against yours". (i like taking mirrors off myself i own 3 now, 1 Mits Galant,1 GTI, and one from a lex ES300? ) whats that? Get away? well, good an all if you can safely do so without endangering another or putting yourself from one frying pan into another, ask me about gaurd rails some time, or riding concreat curbing 2' wide at about 60mph for 500'. or flat tracking at 45-50 in grassy median between lanes of travel.

Yes Bikes are dangerous, get use to it? No way, Dangers of the road and weather are one thing. NO ONE has the right to Threaten My life beyond my own allowences.

Side note: Most the drivers who "Didn't See Me" often wave "Sorry my bad" its the ones who blatantly look right at me and then decide to do it anyway that feel my wrath.  No where in the U.S. does Lane spliting apply to CARS. Very few states allow it for Bikes.
Accelerate like your being chased, Corner like you mean it, Brake as if you life depends on it.
Ride Hard...or go home.

Its you Vs the pavement.....who wins today?

Turkina

Eh, I should make a distinction then... if someone tried that on a Long Island parkway, I'd kick the door in, then go flying off onto the median because the lanes are only 8 ft wide and there are no shoulders (and that's why there is no splitting in NY... some roads are way too narrow!).  If on one of the normal highways, there's enough room to escape if you pay attention.  The biker was just being confrontational and probably could have gotten away if she paid attention rather than looking for a fight.

As for blind spots, sure, go a little faster or slower than traffic flow.  I do that in my car to get out of those!

Anyways, for lane positioning... Lets say you are in the left hand lane of a 2 lane highway.  I put myself in the rightmost part of the lane (and the leftmost part if I was in the right lane) in order to make myself more visible to drivers who might want to get into my line.  Gives the appearance of the spot taken up, rather than hanging out in the far part of the lane and giving the car driver a nice juicy spot to push you out of.  What about if you were in a middle lane of a 3+ lane highway?

Does anyone recall a few years back the two soccer moms in atlanta ga that were driving along when soccer mom #1 cut off soccer mom #2. ensuing an all out mommy dearest hellfest. they followed eachother off the highway, soccer mom #1 with her kids in the car no less goes walking over to the other mother, screaming and acting like she's gonna hit the lady so soccer mom #2 still in her minivan pulls out her gun, bought just for a situation like this although I imagine her envisioning a rather large man instead of her body double in soccer mom clothing. Long story short, one shot and soccer mom #1 no longer goes to soccer practice, infact mom is doing much these days six feet under ground. or how about the eighty year old man on the sunken meadow parkway in long island near northport long island who was flagged over by a younger gentleman for impeading his process of doing ninty in a fifty five zone. The older man shot him in the face and drove off. If you want to test the sanity of others do so at your own risk...

Amen!  Stephan is right.  This woman did no good for the sport or her fellow motorcyclists.  We complain that cagers are out to get us, but I notice the same driving habits when I'm in my car as I do on my bike so I don't take it personally.  Actually, those drivers that do notice me on my bike usually show me a little extra curtousy.  So the approach I take is to be sure to give a thumbs up or a polite wave to drivers that give me a break, and do my best to avoid the idiots.

One of the beauties of living in Canada is that I dont have to worry as much about somoene pulling a gun out and blowing my head off. If eel pretty safe kicking off mirrors, denting doors, smashing tail lights. You know all the good stuff to get back at cagers who f%$k with me.
I totally endorse how this person reacted to the lady in the Camry. Ignorant bitches like that deserve whats coming to them. I hate it when people have too much pride to admit that they are wrong. I smash away!

You'll do that one day in the fall, the driver will knock you off the road, and they'll find your body after the spring thaw ;) Canadians aren't that polite, you know

/\---Luckily where I live it doesnt really snow all that much.
I just get so sick off cagers. They are so ignorant. Especially come spring. THey forget how to drive with motorcycles on the road. They just floata orund in their lanes, dont shoulder check, you know how it is.
As for Ed_In_Ass's comment about gun control, I think we should leave the subject alone. I think others may remember how pissed off I got last time this subjectw as brought up here. Not happy about the US gun policy. Lets leave it at that.

lol.  You really think that just because you have gun control laws that means nobody has a gun?

that's funny.

the only difference is that the people that still have guns in canada, while there are fewer of them, won't hesitate to use them if they can get away with it.

If you have a gun legally you know what you are and aren't allowed to do with it.

If you have a gun illegally, you do wtih it whatever you think you can get away with... which is actually no different than what you could get away with in the US, since unless they actually thought you were going to kill them, if the so much as pulled a gun on you you could get them sent to prison for years.  If they fired, it's a murder charge... so really no different than canada.

Granted, there are probably people that get concealed permits that aren't even tempered enough to have them... but then, the people in canada who have them (and if you really think that nobody in canada has a gun, you really are dreaming) are pretty well *all* unsuited to have them, since it's only people who don't care about the law who have them there....

I know your views on the subject, Rich, and that's fine... but your implication that just because you're in canada, you're free to kick in anyone's door w/out fear of retaliation is ludicrous.  particularly since if you kicked in my door and I were really ticked (now, keep in mind that I am always careful to keep an eye out for bikers, so it wouldn't happen), I wouldn't pull a gun on you... that would be stupid.  I'd just swerve a little harder and take you out, since it'd be pretty easy to do that and claim that it was a reflexive response to the kick... since it scared me out of my wits, you know.

Of course, I'd be terribly sorry afterwords.... but you'd have far less of a case against me, and that's assuming you survived whatever happened to you.

I'd rather be shot at while I was go 75+mph  and moving around than swerved into anyday.  most people can't hit a bike from a moving car, and if they don't hit you the first time, you get your rear end out of there and call the cops... after checking the license plates.
