Towards the float needle will cause the the needle to close sooner.

Srinath,

You are right the engine was flooded badly.  I took the carbs off and gas was coming out of the intake.

Here is the weird thing, the side that I check using the u-tube method that the float was set correctly was totally flooded.  The other side which was 3/8th" above the float bowl rim (carb mounted on the bike), was bone dry.  Can someone please explain.   Should've  the side with the incorrect float height be the side that should be flooded?

Kerry

That is very odd.  Did you use the U-tube method with the bike on the centerstand or the sidestand?

The bike was on the center stand.  I did notice one more thing.  The bike was not level even on the center.  I guess my garage isn't level.  The left side of the bike is lower then the right.  Which make sense that the left side was the side that measured 3/8th off.  Was doesn't make sense is that the right side was the side that was flooded.  This mean the gas was going up hill!  Right now I stuck a stack of paper under the left center stand foot to make it level.  Any suggestion is to what causing this weird problem? :dunno:

Please help!

OK the bike being not perfectly vertical actually doesn't matter for float level... but it will give you a false reading in the U tube. For this I have the simultaneous U tube method. 2 U tubes ... same procedure... just hold them around the back of the carbs and put them against the right side of the left carb and the right side of the right carb. and try a simultaneous level comparison. If the bike is level the carbs have fuel level that's like this - - . If its tilted... they are more like this / / . So you need to measure the high points or low points. However to measure it like that... you need to get rid of the airbox... easy if you have the K&N pod... just remove that... and look at it from the top of the battery.
Now flooding is if you have a lot of liquid gas in the intake... a little... like a few drops isn't much. You think the lower side has a float that was stuck. I would set the floats right, and get the gas out of the intakes and motor, clean plugs and then fit it all back and see.
Cool.
Srinath.

Wahoooooooo  I got the gs to run and it seems to be running nice.  I didn't ride it since it late and its wet out.  I'll ride it tomorrow to see how it is.  Thank you all for your help.
